Final Update

Image
I decided to have some user testing done so I asked some people, got their consent and then had them fill out the release form before finally having them try my website and there were quite a few things to fix, from the menu to the readability of the the website.  Some of the things they mentioned includes the randomized chapters, one of them mentioned that some may prefer reading numerically thus she suggested adding the numbers of the chapters in the menu. Along with this problem was one that another user pointed out, and that is that she didn't like how the about page wasn't shown first and that the button for it wasn't very obvious either so I made the change accordingly.  Another issue was the alignment. I had previously tried changing the alignment of my text to provide a more interesting layout for users when reading. However, after receiving the feedback, I have decided to keep to the left aligned text as that seemed the most simplest and easiest for readers to read...

Videos

Image
Am now working on my videos, which I thought was only 2, promo and documentation but was actually 3, the walkthrough. I found some audio to go with my videos and even created the YouTube Branding page. Since realising that I forgot about the documentation video *whoops*, I have spent the time perfecting my images and website designs recording myself to use for materials for the video. Not quite sure how I plan to approach it but I figure I can do it like how I've been doing my blogs, personal and straight to the point.

Evaluative Post

In assignment 2, the project titled "Elephant" aims to raise awareness about the endangerment of African elephants through an interactive website featuring a written novel. Each chapter of the novel can be read numerically or at random and will incorporate information about African elephants and links to support organizations. Readers can scroll through the website, encountering occasional photography and illustrations as they progress through the story. Personally, I believe that the approach of using a novel on a website to bring attention towards animal endangerment is an interesting idea, and it certainly reaches out to a broader audience. Perhaps, I was not thorough enough with my research nevertheless I have not found any website with the same exact concept. Websites raising awareness by showcasing animals or just storytelling websites in general certainly exist, but one containing a novel leading up to information on the subject has not come up while I was searching....

Tutorial

Had a tutorial with Steve today and even saw Dean. I just thought a discussion on the overall progress and that everything is going in the right direction. Though he brought up my surprise in the positive feedback of my project, there were still many things to improve.  Some of this includes the text, since the this is a novel and a storytelling website, a lot of text will be included and the overall website would be quite text heavy so Steve and Dean mentioned that I could try to work on splitting up the text or adding more images to just make it easier to absorb. Dean mentioned some issues with the color of my character design in certain photographs with darker lighting.  I asked a couple of questions and other than that, all seems well.👍 Since the last post I have made a rough storyboard for my promo video as well, yay progress.

Drawing 2.0

Image
Starting to panic! I've made some more progress on my drawings before realizing that I have no idea how to draw. Since the drawings are based off scenes within my story, I've been trying my best to draw it out as I have imagined them but when it came to the scenes in which the character was human, I found that the quality of the work was not up to my standard, to put it honestly it was hideous and I had no idea how to make it look nice. However since I was overall happy with the drawings more elephant focused, I decided to focus the drawings on the elephant itself, how it would have looked like in that situation if she weren't a human and her thoughts throughout it all. Especially since in the end, my protagonist is an elephant and will always be an elephant, and the project is quite elephant centered in general. Another issue I encountered was one concerning two of my scenes, a few scenes have always popped up in my head when I was writing this story. One was the idea of a...

Website Redesign

Image
Found my website rather hideous after adding some of the contents, so I am now doing some redesigning. I figured I may even change my menu since I find it very unaesthetically (if that's a word) pleasing. The ones on top are the previous menu designs and I decided to go for something slimmer and sleeker and less in your face. I'm quite happy with this new design, it's out of the way but at the same time easy to access. I also researched some more websites to reference and take inspiration from, my classmates have been particularly helpful in providing advice on the design aspect. Obviously they suggested Pinterest, but I find myself still having trouble figuring out the design I want to go for. At times I even feel like my colour palette no longer suits the feel I was going for, but I'm rather hesitant to change it.  By the way here are some storytelling websites I have found as reference for myself: https://www.aftermetoo.com/  https://mirror-planet.world/  https://imm...
