Week 2 - 3 Ideas
For the Degree Project assignment 1, I came up with a few ideas for the installation (as shown below). From my understanding, an installation is something that is interactable and can be seen as well as touched, so the ideas tend to feature that aspect. However, after the tutorial, Steve mentioned that this may not necessarily be the case and suggested I do something else. I wanted to do web design but once more Steve said it wasn't enough for a degree project.
In the end, Steve suggested doing something I'd like to do in the future or something I was interested in, which was copywriting - he suggested writing a book. Never in my life have I ever thought of copywriting as writing a book, I always thought copywriting was for writing social media post but honestly the idea of writing a book was exciting.
My experience in writing would consist of essays and fanfiction so I didn't have much confidence but I am so excited to give writing a story a shot. Coming up with ideas was also a whole other ball park but that's for the next blog post.
Inside a Box
Visitors can enter a small and narrow box / cupboard? With a small hole in which they can peek out of. Shows how people who do not take a step out of “the box”, explore outside the environment they grew up in, have a limited view of what they see and know. Felling comfortable in this little box you made for yourself and unwilling to try something new.
井底之蛙
Edible or Inedible
A display of different animals from a dog, bunny, horse, cow and pig, covered with an acrylic panel where visitors can mark a cross or write one word explaining why they would not eat that animal.
To see the limits that people have when it comes to what animal they are willing to eat. Social media platforms are now used to spread awareness about animal welfare. While I want to explore what is stopping people from eating certain animals.
Inside the Lines
I will present an empty or drawn canvas in which visitors can draw over to show that there is no set way to art. During my childhood, I remember when coloring an image, teachers would often say to color inside the lines.
However, I would like to show people that there is no set way to color, in other words there are no rules in art.
