Project Prospectus - Logo

Image
Things are going relatively slow, I've been struggling with my story writing. After a tutorial with Steve, I was able to grasp a better idea for the website design and the way I would present my story on it. I'm basically listening to his advice to create a less linear website and story and just allow user to have more freedom to click around and explore, really just interacting with the website however they want.  So now I am searching for websites to use as references especially since my website would be so text heavy. Hopefully I'll be able to begin working on my wireframe and get a rough prototype before Christmas break. (this did not happen) I have also been looking into some inspiration for my logo design, here's a mood board for said logo and the style I would like to go for. Mainly something minimalistic but perhaps not just lines as it opposes the mood board I have for my drawing/ photography hybrid which I plan to use on my website. One more, everything is cut...

Project Prospectus - Visual References

Now we have my moodboard! As mentioned before I really like the cute aesthetic so my color palette really reflects that, however I do worry if the colors would be hard on readers when reading the website so I'll still be testing with this as the character color palette for now and go from there. On the other hand, I started on this color palette by picking a pastel pink, I wanted a color that would make the elephant stand out in the media elements on the website. The other colors were merely seeing what would go well with the pastel pink but trying to stick with the cute and pastel theme. After that is the images on the moodboard. Again picking cute and light art styles. Over the years, I noticed my art isn't the best so I tend to stick with simplistic and minimalistic art styles. Usually I do illustrations with thick and round outlines but since I also wanted to try something new but within my capabilities, I chose these type of drawings as my references, simple shapes with co...

Submission!!

Finally submitted my assignment and already have some ideas for the interactions on the interactive pdf in the second assignment. Probably gonna attempt to finish the draft for the novel before assignment 2 and have a rough draft or sketch for the website before then as well. Hopefully I'll have sufficient time to finish it along with my other assignments, kind of getting nervous about the workload now.

Project Updates

I moved everything from my google document to my InDesign yesterday and realized that I wasn't sure if I had to include references for the images I used for my moodboard and visual references. I momentarily panicked and then added it anyway just in case.  Then I realized the document looked a bit plain so I added some color. I also finally figured out the arrangements and a few more functions such as paragraph styles, that made my whole life easier. Though I'm still contemplating if I should include instructions teaching people the objects that can be interacted with. Overall, basically done, just wondering if I should put it through a plagiarism checker, cause I don't know how to access the school's Turnitin account, but considering the ideas and text were by me, it should be fine. I have my fingers crossed.

Submission soon

I plan on submitting my proposal as an interactive pdf and actually attended the InDesign class by Peter to do so. Here's a screenshot of one of the projects. I don't know what kind of interactive I would go for considering it mainly consists of words but I figured I'll just go for it. Here's my progress so far, honestly don't know what I'm doing. I know how to create an interactive pdf but do not know how to create a regular pdf on InDesign. The realization that I'm completely useless without my google document's simple buttons and auto formats is killing me.

Inspiration

Image
During my last tutorial, Stephen mentioned I should go see galleries to get some inspiration which I did yesterday. Honestly I don't really understand gallery exhibitions, perhaps my thought process is too surface level to fully understand the depth of the artist's artworks but it was definitely an experience as I saw some famous artist's artworks while I was there. I actually found myself taking more inspiration from the children books in the gift shops rather than the artworks themselves😅. Anyway, here's some of the pictures from the trip. There were more but I didn't want to fill this blog with too many pictures. But the books here are a great example for the potential art style I might go for.

Week 5 - Updates & Tutorial

I finally came up with a plot!!! (Please read Week 2 if you don't know what's going on) I have a dream journal on my phone where I write whatever dreams I remember. I really like my dreams and love to see how it ends, sometimes I end up dreaming the same dream so I tend to write them down so that I can piece them back together. For the story I'm writing, I decided to complete one of my dreams. The story below was my dream and I changed it a bit to fit to a more general story. A dream where elephants were taken to an island where meat from their legs are extracted but the gate came loose so they escaped angry and seeking revenge from humans. People started fleeing to the oceans but elephants came after them, it's now humans against sea animals?
